PYO tomatoes, flowers, herbs and already picked carrots, eggplant and farmstand vegetables
The PYO tomato patch is open and loaded with tomatoes, red or green, and priced at $1/lb. We have 15 varieties and most of them are ready. The romas are ripe in the center clusters. We have two varieties of them this year, Viva italiana, roma and big mamma. Lots of customers make sauce using the heirloom Mortgage Lifter also, as it is so meaty, and combine it with the other varieties. Sometime in September we have a frost, however we cover our tomatoes and continue to pick them. Last year we picked tomatoes until October 28th! We have late plantings of cukes, summer squash, zucchini, lettuce and kale also. We cover up any crops that are not frost tolerant and keep them going as long as possible.
We have a limited amount of sweet corn and already picked strawberries today. We have lots of corn in the field and expect to have good amounts of it soon. At the farmstand we will have several varieties of tomatoes, 3 varieties of lettuce, kale, swiss chard, summer squash and Zucchini.
We have set our farm store hours to be Tuesday thru Friday 9am - 6pm and Saturday and Sunday 9 -4pm, closed Monday. If you don't cut in the CYO garden it gets ahead of us and I must cut in it to keep the flowers producing. Come on over and cut some flowers for your home, your wedding, the work place or for a friend. You can bring your own bucket or vase or I will wrap your flowers for travel. The herb garden is ready for you also. It has several varieties of Basil including a deep purple type, a fennel, anise hyssop, celantro, rosemary, tarragon and feverfew (which is great for headaches).
PYO raspberries are finished for the season. We have fall raspberries including a few rows of fall gold and one row of red Polana. The red polana had berries yesterday and was picked off. The yellow fall gold is not ready yet, but should be ready in another week or so.
